How to use the Cricut Warp tool in Design Space (and when to skip it)

Cricut added Warp to Design Space in 2024. It reshapes text and images with about thirty styles and a strength slider, and it is genuinely useful when it works. This guide covers where it is, why it might be missing, and what to do when the preview bends but the cut does not.

Where the Warp tool is

Open Design Space on desktop (Windows or macOS). Warp is not in the iOS, Android or browser versions.
Select a text layer or a single-layer image.
In the top toolbar, look for Warp next to Offset. If it is not there, go to Settings → General and turn on Beta Application, then restart Design Space.
Pick a style, drag the slider, and click Apply.

Styles worth knowing

The names follow Photoshop’s Warp Text dialog: Arc, Arch, Bulge, Flag, Wave, Fish, Rise, Fisheye, Inflate, Squeeze and Twist, each in a couple of variants. Arch is the one people want for shirts and hats because the letters stay upright while the baseline curves.

The bug: preview bends, blade cuts straight

A number of users report that the warped preview looks right, but after Make It the letters cut in a straight line. It is not consistent, and switching between Beta and Live sometimes fixes it. Two reliable workarounds:

Flatten before cutting. Select the warped layer and click Flatten so it becomes a single image. You lose the ability to edit the text, but the cut matches the preview.
Bring the warp in as an SVG. Make the curved text outside Design Space and upload it as an SVG. The file below is already outlines only, so Design Space has nothing to reinterpret.

When to skip Warp entirely

If you need the same word on several sizes of shirt, or you cut on both a Cricut and a Silhouette, an SVG is the cleaner path. It sizes exactly in inches, welds are already done, and it opens identically in both programs.
